MOVING TIPS

Tips for a successful move

  • There are special packing boxes available for certain items that will make your move much easier. Clothes for example can be left on hangers. Special crates can be made for antiques. Ask your mover!

  • Make sure you have all necessary packing supplies, including: Packing Tape, Marking Pens, Labels, Strong Boxes, Packing Paper for delicate items, Bubble Wrap or Packing Pellets, Scissors and/or Cutting Tool.

  • Don’t forget to leave your garage opener for the new residents.

  • Pack one room at a time and mark your boxes by room. It will make unpacking much easier.

  • Don’t wait until the last minute to get the packing done. The extent of this job is always underestimated. Start packing weeks in advance and doing a little at a time will save you a lot of frustration.

  • Use bubble pack for all fragile items. Available from your mover.

  • Pack records, tapes and CD’s tightly and on end to avoid damage.

  • Use original boxes for small appliances, computers and stereos.

  • Weak boxes equal damage to your property. See your grocer or liquor store for strong corrugated boxes. Or we can provide special boxes for you at a nominal cost.

  • Newspapers are good for packing, but remember ink may rub off and stain items.

  • Special packing tape is available at most stores. This strong material will help your boxes to stay together.

  • Label everything with information about all the contents, what room it came from, and if it should be opened first.

  • When picking a box to pack, remember that the heavier the item, the smaller the box should be.

  • Secure all opened containers with tape.

  • Secure all doors and drawers with tape or twine to avoid opening during the move.

  • Check your owner’s manual on all appliances for special moving instructions.

  • Keep all your owners manuals together in an easy place to locate at your new residence.

  • Consult with your mover (that’s us!) for more tips and suggestions for your special needs.
